I graduated from the Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy in 2006 and began training in the McKenzie method in 2007. The different approach to assessment and treatment that the McKenzie method offered, along with its effectiveness in delivering rapid results, quickly caught my attention and shaped the way I practice as a Physiotherapist. I continued to learn all that I could about the McKenzie method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy and became a Certified McKenzie Practitioner in June of 2013, and have remained actively involved and certified with the Robin McKenzie Institute Canada ever since. I am passionate about health and wellness, and believe in empowering others to take an active role in living lives they love! When I'm not working I can most often be found exploring and enjoying the outdoors by land and water. I am a volunteer with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust, acting as a property guardian to help preserve and protect Nova Scotia's beautiful natural landscape. I am also one of Nova Scotia's first PaRx (Prescription for Nature) prescribers, and truly believe that nature is medicine. I love helping my clients understand their pain and discover the tools they can use to recover from pain, regain movement and function, and have lasting success. The most pivotal moment in my McKenzie experience was helping someone remotely who was waiting in the Emergency Room with an acute and severe onset of sciatica leaving him unable to work, let alone walk or even sit comfortably. By following the steps in the McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy framework, with a few simple movements this client was able to walk away pain-free from the ER without ever being seen, and had unlocked the key to controlling his pain and function. That was the first time I'd ever seen the potential for the McKenzie method to be successful in a virtual format, and this took place in 2015. Virtual healthcare is now on the rise, and I'm so glad to have this incredible diagnostic and treatment tool that allows me to provide the best service for my clients. I look forward to helping you take control of your pain, and move on to a brighter future! |
